Tools Needed to Paint Your Bedroom

Painting your room can be a great home improvement project. It can help change the way you feel about your room. Maybe you’re bored with the color of your bedroom and want to liven it up a bit. You can paint your bedroom on a relatively small budget, too.

Here are some of the tools that you will need when you are about to start a bedroom repainting project.

1.    Paint Roller

Deciding to use a roller depends on the size of your space. If it is large, you’ll probably need something more than a brush (although you’ll still need a brush), something that gets the job done quickly.

Enter the paint roller. When you have oil-based paints, it’s good to have the roller made of natural materials like wool. If the paints are latex, a synthetic material like nylon will work well. Thin nap rollers work well if the wall surface is smooth. If you have textured surfaces on the walls, a thicker nap would be more suitable.

2.    Paint Tray

You’ll need a container to hold your pain as you go around painting. A paint tray that has a durable metallic build is your best bet. The dimensions of your paint tray should match (or be slightly larger than) the length of the roller. The roller length refers to the surface that comes in contact with the walls of your bedroom.

If you are using rollers with more than one color for your bedroom, you should also get plastic inserts for separating the colors in the tray. These plastics inserts are disposable, too.

When you start painting, dip your roller into the tray and distribute the paint evenly by moving the roller back and forth. Let any excess paint drip off into the tray before you start rolling onto the walls.

3.    Painters’ Tape

Painter’s tape has one purpose: covering areas where you do not want the paint to go. Make sure that your painter’s tape is well suited for the wall surface that you are going to paint. Cover up different areas that you want to spare painting, even if it is for the time being.

Paint the walls, and leave the tape on until the paint has completely dried off. But remember not to keep the tape on, longer than necessary. Latex paint may try coming away with the tape. If that happens, use a small utility knife to cut the areas where the paint meets the tape.

4.    Drop Cloth

You can either choose canvas or plastic drop cloths. The furniture, hardwood floors and other areas will be protected with the use of a drop cloth. Canvas cloths may be costlier but will likely last longer. But plastic drop cloths are reusable and weigh less. Choose very carefully, according to your budget.
